I bought and sold my RD1, for a Leica M8.
With the RD1, I figured that if it became a paperweight, at the price, I wouldn't be to put off.
I do have to admit, I was much happier with the M8. No focus funnies (I needed to re-align the RD1 a couple times). And the M8 cycled much faster than the RD1.
But, the fears of the M8 failing, and the rapid depreciation caused me to sell it to, and come running back to film. Oh, I'm pretty sloppy about file storage too. So, film is the ideal solution for my storage task - file and forget.
I still occasionally (okay, frequently) wish I had the M8. But the feeling doesn't last. I just look at the files I still have on the PC (and haven't moved to the hard drive), I read about someone else's problem with their M8, and I am happy with my herd of film cameras.
So yeah, fear was part of why I sold both my RD1 and M8.
