Scotland -- The Big Day Is Here

Maybe this is too political a topic to be appropriate for RFF, so I'll defer to the moderators as to whether it can stay.

But -- I am very interested in people's thoughts, especially those in Great Britain (and of course in Scotland itself). "Yes" or "no"? And why?

I've followed only generally, but appreciate what an epic day it must be for those on both sides of the issue. When will the result be called? My understanding is it could go either way. On principle, I would always favor independence and personal identity.

While I follow you there, you also have to be practical. Europe is already a mess with little patches and their own rules. If we add to that it becomes even worse. They didn't even manage to use a single electrical plug since the years it exists.

There is a "simple" solution and that is to abolish the european countries and make then imto something like the US states. They can decide over the colour of the poles for the street lights and things like that. It then wouldn't matter if another 20 ethnical minorities would start their own fiefdom. But if we start having borders and changing currency and highway code every 100km...

So while I'd like it to go "yes" because that would force quite a few issues (or implode the lot) I think most people there will be scared enough about the consequences of such an implosion to say "no".

As I understand things, and that is always very doubtful, if there is a 'yes' vote then negotiations can start on arrangements for devolution. I believe there is a caveat of them being 'in the best interests of both countries', but who knows what can happen and between whom with a UK wide general election in March 2015. Both negotiation teams could be different after that date.
If anybody knows anything about all this I will be very surprised - I'm sure the general public doesn't know.
