Back a few days ago from almost 3 weeks in Scotland with my first real DSLR (Nikon D5100 and 3 lenses). A beautiful country with beautiful people.
Thoughts on the Nikon:
The body is no bigger, and lighter, than RF's I've handled. Lenses are bigger than their RF cousins, but not really heavier. (Yes, there is a lot of "plastic". There was a lot of "plastic" in the plane" that flew me there, too.)
Autofocus is great, obviously better than what my eyes can manage.
"Chimping" is nothing to be ashamed of. It's a tool. If you take bad photos in a place you will never visit again, why wouldn't you want to know that before you moved on?

Nice stuff and some good observations.
Chimping is a term for the uneducated. Way back when we all used View Cameras we chimped with black sheets over our heads. Talk about silly looking!

Very nice. For some reason, I think the second one should be titled "English to Scottish Dictionary." I've known a few Scots (at least one was orphaned from WWII and sent here to work as a teen in the '50s) in my time, and a dictionary could be helpful from time to time

But keep the whole using a small DSLR thing on the down-low. You don't want to give anyone the idea they can't take good pictures without several grand in "lightweight" Leicas, hehe. We'd have to change the name to "Umm... forum?.com" And let me guess, the lenses were an 18-55, 55-200 and a 50/1.8. Am I close?

Close. I had the 55-200, the 35/1.8, and the 10-24. the 35/1.8 didn't see much use.

Very nice pics indeed! I took a small dSLR to Ireland a few months ago and used just one lens, a 17-55. It was all I needed and the pics were OK too!

Lovely pictures. Wonderful colours and composition! Pictures like these make me wonder sometimes about the angst I go through toting film and big cameras everywhere.
