The shots look sorta lifeless to me except for the last one. The B&W is just gray. There's no problem w/ the compositions though. Maybe it's due to using digital, and the locale? I'm probably spoiled living here in New Mexico, where we get beautiful light and lots of sun. If they had just used slide film.........

There's a link at the end of the article that takes you to more pics.

I liked the one of the football pitch that got the youth award. I agree maybe Scotland is a land that requires the zone system.

Hmm. Scotland has the most unbelievably glorious landscape, yet all seem to be less than the sum of the parts.

An awful lot of processing too - I admit that I get an increasingly violent reaction to overtly processed images (mainly digital but some film) as they speak more of Photoshop rather than the landscape - which doesn't help.

I hate knocking other photographers' efforts, mine are hardly great, but I'm not loving these.

So many of RFF member Ian Watts’s photographs I find more interesting. I rarely like competition winning photographs.

Something must be wrong with my computer, some SS pictures are giving terrible blue cast.
SS is Scotch and Snowy.

I liked the one. With soccer field. Made me thinking this way - if guys where wearing woman dress, what gals are wearing then...
