Scratched neg.

Started printing again after many years, great to be back at it again. But yesterday I came across a negative that has a scratch running right through it, must have been when winding on. Anyhow my help question is what is the best method of trying to spot a print with this problem.
I never had spotting equip in the old days, so what it the best package out there. I am using real paper, not resin coated stuff.

Try to locate a bottle of Edwal's "No Scratch" and a fine brush...you'll apply a thin layer to both sides then print the neg...make sure you clean it off after you're done...
I have some and have used it a few times...it works...and no spotting afterwards...
I've read that in the old days some printers would use the oil from their skin...
The 1 oz. bottle should last a lifetime...

Sam, that's quite interesting.
How would you clean it off? doesn't the emulsion side of film break out at the touch of water? it does in my experience.

Edwal also makes an "Anti-Stat Film Cleaner" which contains Tetrachloroethylene & Isopropanol...
This is what I would normally use when cleaning negs before printing...
This will remove any & all of the oil...they also recommend using a glassless neg carrier...
I don't use water to clean...If I don't have this film cleaner I use Isopropyl alcohol...
And I just use regular cotton balls to wipe the neg with the cleaner and then a second one to dry it off...
