Checking over some new equipment last night, I noticed that the vc 15mm did not screw into the Bessa L so that the focus dot was at 12 noon -- rather, looking at the camera, it looked like it was at something closer to 11:45. This was particularly easy to spot given the scalloeped hood of the 15. I stuck an LTM to M ring on it and mounted it on an M Leica -- high noon.

Today, I noticed the same thing with the VC 21.

Then I tried mounting them on a Leica IIIa -- same behavior as the Bessa L -- askew.

Shouldn't pose a shooting problem with the 21, but I'm wondering if the slanted hood on the 15 results in vignetting.

I also wonder why I haven't read about this anywhere.

Anybody have similar experience ?

This is not an unusual problem with the 15mm lens. Search the RFF repair forum. I know there are step by step instructions. The only reference I have is a photo I saved - I don't remember who posted it originally. Before you tackle this task, make sure that you have quality screwdrivers that fit the screw heads, otherwise you run the risk of stripping out the screw heads. Remove the four screws that hold the thread mount to the rear of the lens. There are three sets of screw holes in the rear of the lens. Rotate the threaded mount and shims to align with the set of holes that will correct the "skew". Reinstall the screws and you are in business. The first time I did this I went the wrong way and increased the misalaignment.

Thanks, Blomed and SimonSawSunlight.

I'll take some shots as it and will have the answer -- in the meantime, Blomed, others, does the misaligned hood in the 15 interfere with the shot? mechanicall vignetting?
