Screw in Diopters

In his book Mastering the X Pro 1, Pfirstinger asserts the use of screw in dioptre lens, particularly if the x pro user wears varifocal glasses, I must admit that today I went out and shot a few frames without any dioptre adjustment and everything went fine. Do any other users of the X pro wear glasses and if so do they use crew in dioptre lenses. 99 percent of my shots were taken using the ovf

I mentioned recently in an XP thread ... my thrill that the default correction was -2.0, my exact prescription! This is the first camera that I did not have to the diopter dance with, as I do not use my eyeglasses when shooting.

now \i manage to wear my glasses and still manage ok with the viewfinder

I wear glasses and I had to add a -1 diopter on the X-Pro1. It sharpened things up perfectly for my aging vision.

I use a +3 which makes everything tack sharp for me. Mike, you say, ". . .Pfirstinger asserts the use of screw in dioptre lens . . .". What do you mean by "asserts" in this context? Do you mean he advocates their use or that he thinks they should not be used?

My gripe is that most manufacturers' adjustable viewfinders only extend to +1 on the +side. A nice exception was Panasonic (on the LX series) which went from -5 to +5. That's a useful range.

I wear glasses and shoot with both the X-Pro1 and the X100s without any problem. The x100s was adjusted via the diopter control but the X-Pro 1 is as is out of the box. The only complaint is I keep knocking my glasses off centre getting then smeared by my eyelashes ;-)

I've owned my X Pro now for about a year and a half and have done fine with the standard set-up. I do wear bifocals, and noticed that the view through the OVF was much better than either the info overlays or the EVF. For EVF usage, the reader portion of my eyeglasses was preferable but remained an unworkable solution. I purchased three pair of inexpensive magnifying readers in strengths of +1, +2, and +3. To test and determine proper strength that I needed to order, I unscrewed the factory eyepiece, and tried viewing holding each of the strengths in front of the naked viewfinder, between my regular glasses and camera eyepiece. I found, for me, +2 to be the best overall strength, dramatically sharpening the EVF and overlay views, and actually improving the OVF, as well. I ordered the +2 and am very pleased with the results. Now, if I can just remember to return those reader glasses...
