Here is the deal:

I have a bright-barrel Jupiter-8, rectilinear focussing version (of course). The grease in the focussing heicoid seems to have dried so quite jammed up, so does that in the aperture mechanism so that the aperture ring feels both scratchy and yet sloppy.

As I am going to use it as standard lens with the Bessa-R I would like to get it back in shape again, but since I want to do it once, I would just be as well do a thorough job: stripping it down completely then reassembling it properly, and taking the opportunity to set it up to match the rangefinder.

I do not seem to be able to find any instruction on how to strip this lens and carry out the required procedures; and would appreciate any insight.

Thank you so much

I just did a relube of a 1957 Jupiter 3 during the weekend. Don't take apart the lens assembly unless you need to. Assuming the construction is the same as a Jupiter 8 (chrome) the lens should twist off the focusing unit. Grab the front ring and the aperture ring and unscrew counterclockwise. You then can work on cleaning and relubing the double helical. You will need a very small screwdriver to remove the focusing ring and the lens mount ring. Best to work in a small tray to avoid losing the small screws. God help you if you drop them on a carpet!

Here's a link to Matt Denton's relube of an <a href=http://homepage.mac.com/mattdenton/photo/cameras/industar_relubing/index.html>Industar</a>

Good luck!
