Screw-mount Leica rangefinder window removal tool

You know, the one that you use to unscrew the round windows on a Barnack Leica to get at the vertical adjustment. I'm sure that I've seen them mentioned somewhere but now that I can't find the reference I don't know what to search for on the web.

And yes, I've tried every vaguely-rubber-esque object in the house. All are either too hard or too soft. Pliers seem way too prone to damaging the metalwork.

I believe these kind of spanners ("flexi-clamps")may be the ones you may be searching for. Although this set is for the Leica M the same kind should be able to be used for unscrewing the window on an LTM camera. Its just a matter of knowing the diameter of the window surround and making sure you get the right sized tool for the job. I have, incidentally, some time ago seen them for sale singly rather than in sets. Not sure where now. Perhaps micro tools as suggested by another person. But $30 as some Chinese sellers are asking is a pretty good price anyway for a full set if that's what you need to do.

BTW if you see a bronze or aluminium one in the correct size, rather than stainless steel its better in that its less likely to mar the camera. Otherwise be careful. Or buy one slightly too big and use a thin "washer" made from rubber or leather to protect the camera where its is gripped by the tool.

This one tells you the sizes of the various clamps. So you can check against your camera.

It cost me $15 US (including postage) for a 10mm wrench for my Leica III. Also fits IIIa, M2 and M3. An 11mm wrench is needed for IIIc, IIIb, IIIf. I've bought other spanners, instruction books and beam-splitter mirrors from him. All good stuff.
