Hi
Is there or has there been a mount to fit Canon fd lenses onto canon rangefinders cameras i think i have seen one but dont recall i may have been mistaken.I have some nice prime fd lenses i would like to use.Thanks.Ian😉

That would be Canon Lens Mount Converter B. It was made originally for mounting the SLR version of the 19mm f/3.5 lens (which required mirror lockup on the SLR) on a rangefinder camera, but would also mount any other SLR lens on the rangefinder body... although with no rangefinder coupling, of course.

In that era the SLR lenses would have had the FL mount rather than the later FD mount -- but the information I have available to me says that the mounting lugs themselves were identical, with the difference in the FD mount being the addition of signal pins for full-aperture metering (which of course wouldn't have had any effect on an RF camera.) But keep in mind that I haven't actually tried it, so "your mileage may vary"!

My understanding is the same as jlw's. I'd find it interesting to give one of the adaptors a try...

I have the lens mount converter B and while it works, it's also somewhat impractical. FD lenses are considerably bigger, bulkier and heavier than Canon and Leica screwmount lenses and just "get in the way." Plus since FD lenses don't couple to the rangefinder you have to guess focus (works OK for wide-angles but that's about it). So yeah, it works, but it's something I rarely do.
