SD Card compatibility with M8

Leica's list of 'approved' cards is quite short, and doesn't mention any of the more cost-effective brand names. Here in Toronto, for instance, we can get 4GB Transcend cards (labelled 150x) for $105 Cdn plus tax, which is outrageously cheap.

I bought a couple of these and a friend and I tested them in both the EOS 1dsII and the M8 he had for testing. The cards worked perfectly in both. Performance was just slightly below that of the lastest generation Lexar 2GB (10-15% slower --- which is basically irrelevant).

The moral of the story is not be be afraid of trying cards other than those on the list. It would be great to hear what other cards do (and maybe don't) work as Leica Stork starts bringing M8s to their new homes.

You shouldn't have any problems with most cards

that being said its better for performance to stick with Sandisk, Kingston, Lexar cards

you get what you pay for....

I have had great success with the Extreme II and III SDs ...
