Sd Cards Over Igb On Rd-1

Would be nice to use this card in the RD-1 if its possible. I have 4 1GB cards but was thinking about a 2GB card as well.

Anyone tried using a 2GB card in their RD-1 ?

I've tried a 2GB Lexar card. After approximately 1 GB of data, the RD1 reports that the card is full and no more data can be written. An unfortunate situation that one expects could readily be fixed with a ROM update patch if Epson were so inclined.

Since I only shoot RAW, having a 1GB limit is a hassle.

Cheers! Well I think EPSON should have thought of this before. Its not a huge drawback but I sincerely hope EPSON can solve this as a 2GB card would be ideal.

Epson says in their online FAQ that 1gb is the limit, so it's not as if they weren't aware of it. I agree that it would be nice if it were possible to solve this via a firmware update. (Of course, it also would be nice if they could add one-touch histograms and bad-pixel mapping via a firmware update, but I suppose there are limits to what firmware updates can do!)

To me it's not a problem, I'd rather have two 1BG cards than one 2GBs, and also I alternate my two cards during a shoot or a day of shooting, so if one packs up, I only lose 1/2 the shots of the day (so far I had no cards dying on me in more than 6 years shooting digital, but it can happen).

To me, yes. I've never had any other situation where I had to press the shutter button twice.

There's a lot I don't know about this camera. I still haven't found the rewind crank, either... don't know what I'm going to do when I get to the end of my first roll...

Having formatted a Lexar 2GB Smart Media card in the RD1, I discovered today that contrary to my earlier post, this card does work in the RD1 well beyond a 1GB limit. I haven't filled one up yet, but have gone well beyond 1GB (1.3GB) so far on the 2MB card without problem and read the images successfully from my reader to my computer.

Does anyone have any experience with the varying read/write speeds on the different SD cards? I use Sandisk Ultra II 1gb cards but was wondering with the seemingly slow speeds on the R-D1, would it be alright to use older slower cards with the camera? I alternate my SD cards with my Canon DSLR and it's getting to be a pain in the behind to keep swapping my 2 SD cards back and fro.

I guess it would depend on how often you shoot RAW and how many shots you like to shoot in succession (as fast as you can crank).

If you shoot JPEG and rarely do 3-4 shot "bursts" (if you could call cranking fast and shooting a burst) I think you would be OK with slower cards.

If you already are in possession of a slower card I don't see the problem with using it.

But I see no point in buying slower cards to save money because the price difference is not that significant (between San Disk standard blue and Ultra II).
