Yes, I ordered a second 8GB Sandisk Ultra II Plus USB (it has a built-in USB connector). I tested the M8 firmware 2.0 with the 8GB card I keep in my DP1, and it seems to work fine.

Ordered two 16GB from them last night. Should be here tomorrow. I got the RiDATA Lightning 16GB Secure Digital Class 6 High-Capacity for only $42 each. If the M8 can't use them, I know my D-LUX 3 will.

Can someone do the following test of an SDHC card?

My Transcend 4GB 150x SD card and my 1GB Sandisk II, takes 46 seconds to do the following:

From a freshly formatted card, turn on continuous exposure, start your timer when you press the shutter, count 20 shutter actuations, release the shutter on the 20th shutter actuation, stop timer when red flashing "writing" LED goes off on on the back of the camera?

This will give an idea of SDHC performance over/under these two cards.

They are both faster and more capacity, if you get one that is rated fast.

Borrowed an 8GB Kodak SDHC card, and attempted your test. Got to 10 exposures, and shutter acuations stopped, and the message "Data Transfer" appeared on the screen. That was at 35 sec. I stopped there, and it took about 2.5 minutes for the red LED to stop flashing! 😡

Class 6 simply means not having a transfer rate of < 6MB/s. I have seen some cards advertising 30MB/s.

I just ordered Sandisk Ultimate III with 30MB/s transfer rate. I hear this is the fastest speed.

Just purchased one (ScanDisk) from BestBuy and shot about 30 images. No problems so far. Display started off around 750 images or so...

With a Sandisk 8GB Extreme III 30MB/sec SDHC card this test took 42.4 seconds.

so as I understand it now, a bog standard card, although SDHC, is not fast per se. The "Kodak" SDHC card was painfully slow in testing. I have ordered a couple of the 8GB Sandisk Extreme III cards. They should cover all my shooting needs (i.e. 500+ images per card!) [Raw+jpeg fine] Does anyone remember the "bad old days" of 36 shots per roll of film!! 😀

so in the 42 second test, how long does it take for the buffer to clear?
I run into this problem all the time shooting music, its extremely annoying, sometimes i just pop out the battery and reset the thing, i loose alot of shots, but id rather have an opportunity to make more.

can you suggest the best card for music? i.e. best performance?

im interested in that, 30mb/s, that's what the leica can pump out essentially?

Camera and A Data 16mp showed up, counter went to 999 for raw + fine jpeg, still there, and looks like 43 seconds for ten Raw + fine jpeg. It did stop to write after ten, am not sure if everyone is doing Raw + jpeg?

Extreme II card was a few seconds faster.

well guess what I'm going to go nab this weekend....with that much storage though i'm gonna have to make sure I clean up my hard drive to make room for importing them all haha.

I bought a 8 Gig card - totally useless probably as I hardly shoot 700+ pictures with the same card, but I feel well prepared for the next firmware upgrade allowing MP3/4 playback 😀
