The use of film would mean taking a long time over the tests (assuming self D&P) and/or spending money making them. Digital is a lot easier, even if - as pointed out earlier - the vast majority of users are likely to be good old film junkies.
The 90 Elmarit-M consistently comes out as a gem. I bought a used one because it is a relatively cheap gem too (in Leica terms)! I got mine mint as new for less than 40% what thr Sonnar/90f2 APO go for. Seing as mine was for general field/street use I figured f2 was not required. I think the new Summarit 2.5 could be real contender too for size, weight,cost reasons; it only having real competition (remembering price) from the CV 90 3.5 and Elmarit M, assuming it stays in production. The 75 Summarit also only has real competition from the CV 75 2.5...or the cron at a massive price.
