Right in the center of Vienna there's the Kärntenerstrasse a pedestrian tourist zone. Tourists go up and down and take photographs all the time. It's my home district in my hoemtown in my homecountry.......nevertheless I was quite surprised to be approached by two securities who told me to stop taking pictures of the buildings facade (of the jewelers shop to be exact) "as it was private property". The Kaernterstrasse is not a private mall and rules like that don't exist in Austria high security areas seldom can be found on public streets). The securities behaved correctly and insisted that it was the law. I went into the shop and asked the assistant manager about it. His classic Austrian reaction: "I don't understand what you want". The manager understood and and said I could take as many photos as I wanted.
Leaving the shop I had a short chat with the securities and we assured each other that it was nothing personal and I told them that they did a good job.
It was OK no harm done, but I was really baffled:eek: to be confronted with something I considered until now(admittedly with a certain degree of Schadenfreude) an American or an English problem just a few steps away from my appartement.
That's when globalization becomes ridiculous.
best regards from Vienna
