A new anti-photography device may make such interactions a thing of the past. :bang:
If I understand the the project page correctly, it works by detecting the unique IR reflection properties of CCD's, which are then targeted with bright white light (from a slide projector in the case of the prototype) for as long as the CCD is aimed at the detector - effectively "blinding" the camera. I guess it would also draw a certain amount of attention to the photographer. Its stated range is about 10 meters.
I had no idea that anti-photography was an attractive field of endeavor for bright minds, but the article cited in the SlashDot story supplies a number of links to other similar efforts to ruin our fun (the slash-dotters immediately jumped on the potential of adapting this technology to blind radar cameras at speed traps. You may speed with impunity, just don't take any pictures in our mall/park/lobby, etc.)
Since electronic capture seems to be the target of most of these machines, anti-photography device-resistance may become a new arguing point in favour of conventional film in that endless debate.
Read it and weep.

Of course then all voyeurs and pervs would move to use film in bathrooms and wherelse.

Hm, the cameras in speed traps use film. So if it works against CCDs it won't help much.
But would be a nice extra for my Mini Cooper S, since I have the Cooper Works tuning I'm in constant danger to loose my driving licens. Not easy to stay legal on most german roads
