Seeking advice: what to see in L.A area

I'm currently at a training course for work in Glendale/L.A. Can anyone help me find things to see? I went to Pasadena, Colorado Blvd. last night but wasn't sure what to see.

I have a car and I'm looking for things to see. I'm thinking about heading down to Santa Monica this afternoon.

I would greatly appreciate any advice. Festivals, outdoor concerts, outside anything really that draws people, "must see" local attractions, tourist destinations.

Thanks! I'm willing to reciprocate with advice about the Olympic Northwest/Forks-Port Angeles- Sequim areas.
 
@ Santa Monica, be sure to just walk around the 3rd street promenade.

Then go down to Venice Beach.

Tonight or tomorrow, go north on the 405 -- Sunset, Hollywood, Melrose...

BTW, if you're willing to drive about 25-30 miles east, the LA County Fair is going on right now (through October 4th).

Ha! Would love to, but my wife and children would disown me so I'd have to stay. Do you have a room I can crash in?
 
San Pedro: Korean-American Friendship Bell + a good park.

Little Tokyo (downtown LA). Likewise Chinatown.

Griffith Park on week-ends for the picnics.

Disneyland (tacky but iconic). Maybe also Knott's Berry Farm.

Venice Beach, as already mentioned.

Long Beach Marina + Queen Mary.

Redondo Beach Pier.

Beverly Hills

Hollywood Hills (the old part)

Hollywood Boulevard

How long are you there?

Ah, well, on the way back up nrth on the 101, drive through Guadalupe and have dinner at the Far Western then go up to San Luis Obispo for the SLO Brewery (if it's still there -- been a few years...)

Basically the bar scene near the Barnes/Noble bookstore.

Eateries:

In Hollywood eat at Cantors on Fairfax. Famous deli joint, occasional movie stars.

Downtown L.A. near central train station eat at Philippes. Famous deli/beef-dip joint (free parking).

Malibu: Gladstones Fish Restaurant. (Where Sunset intersects Pacific Coast Highway).

This is true. I rode my bike along the bike path a couple weeks ago, from Venice to Hermosa beach. I also had my M6 hanging from my neck while riding.

Olivera Street and Union Station are pretty cool.

The Getty Museum is worth the trip. (Either one).

The Santa Monica Pier.

In Griffith Park go to the Grifith Observatory.

See the original Hollywoodland sign location near the Beachwood cafe on Beechwood Canyon, keep going up to the Hollywood sign

The gates at Paramount Studios, the orbiting globe at the old RKO studio,
taping of the Jay Leno show

the graveyard tour in Hollywood -- movie star graves and scenes of famous Hollywood murders. buy lots of Hollywood maps for obscure hard to find historical spots.

Sunset strip nightlife

Malibu, the Malibu pier, Googies Restaurant, the Paradise Cove Cafe

Hermosa Beach Pier, Manhattan Beach Pier + restaurants

the Beverly Hills Hotel

Mann's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd, the Kodak Theater, the Pantageous Theater,

Universal Studios Tour

downtown City Hall, Bradbury Building
