I was in B&H last week and there were tons of film cameras sitting there.
Not to many good rangefinders (Leica's, Nikon's), Ah the love for the rangefinders,
But if you got a lot of M6's it must be a Film thing and there jumping over to digital.

i feel the urge for film lately but am much too lazy to start developing my own again...would love an m6 or even a 5!

I'm in the market for a film M, but I guess due to previous experience, I wouldn't buy another M6. I didn't feel that they were made with the same degree of quality as, say, an M2 (which I owned concurrent to the M6). I actually called Gerry Smith at Kindermann (Canadian Leica importer) and had a good long chat with him about how crappy I thought the M6 was (or at least my particular M6). Screws coming loose, and just a general feeling that the camera was just not ready for prime time. Had to send the camera to him twice to resolve some really unnecessary things. And I felt bad about it at the time, because not only did I buy it from Keith Matson at Gallery Cameras in Toronto (THE best Leica store in Toronto at the time, or even in Canada for that matter), but I really like Gerry and I hated dumping on him like that about this camera.
Of course I say that, and right now I have an M4-P on my mind. Quite likely going from the frying pan into the fire!

you could just shoot a bunch of color, mail off like 10 rolls for develop only and the cost won't be so bad.

I had an M4-P, and never once in 6 years did a screw come loose, or anything else break. The shutter stuck once, but it turned out to be a bit of paper got wedged in there.

Right now I'm using a Nikon S3 which really surprised me on how nice it
is. I was thinking of getting another Leica again but price for the bodies
aren't to bad but the lenses they really went up in price unless you get
a Zeiss ZM or Voighlander

Yeah I'd probably be okay with an M4-P. I have a particular soft spot for them, as I remember this ad from when I was about 16:

Hmmmm, I suspect You are 'eyeing' my minty M5...
Love that ad too...Just Fab Vince !

I've had that printed ad since it was originally advertised, and have had a soft spot for Midland cameras ever since.
I actually had the good fortune to have a tour of the facility back in 1993 -- Conrad Stenton (who was an optical engineer there, and when it was called Hughes Leitz Optical Technologies) gave me a tour, and for me it was the thrill of a lifetime.
So yes, M4-P for me -- an Everest Edition would send me over the moon!

Adding to what Chris said above:
I bought my M4-P in 2006.
Took it with me every where, whenever I can afford to travel.
There is *zero* problem with the camera until today. The rangefinder has never been out of alignment, not even a hair. I never had to send it to Solms or Midland, or New Jersey.
I'm so tired of hearing people comparing it with M3 this, and M2 that, as though the M4-P is a much inferior product.

I have my eye on a couple of them right now -- I have no experience with the M4P, so it's good to know that you guys had good experiences with them.
Here again, as far as the M6 goes (the original subject of the thread!), my personal experience with it was overall negative. But, I'm sure there are many owners out there who've had nothing but positive experiences with them. And as far as my comparison with the M2 goes, I only cite that because that's what I also owned and used at the time that I owned my M6 (this was during the 1990's).

i'd want a body that had a built in meter...

The M5 is a fantastic beast indeed -- I happen to like the shape and size of the body (3 lug, preferably), but right now I'm actually looking for an M body that does not have a built-in meter. Either an M4P or an M3.....

I have owned my black M6 from new and whilst I fully understand that any camera can give problems, my experience has only been good. I guess I am lucky, but my Black chrome body is a late example from 1997.

Cool ad, and smart marketing by completely obscuring the Leica Winder with a big block of text.
