Self-made monocle for Bessa?

oh, not that kind of monocle.
I'm not sure about terminology, monocle in photographic sense is a lens containing only one (usually front) element.
it's characteristics are softiness and aberrations, which give a disnctive look to the images.
In our country, cheap soviet lenses (Helios, Industar) usually sacrificed for such constructions.

how do u convert lens to monocle?

The correct term is meniscus.

No need to sacrificed a complete lens. The Hoya Softener is cheap, readily availble and can be used on lenses with a variety of focal lengths.

Or you can always do it with editing software.

Software effects all look the same (and therefore, boring). Unlike that, monocle effects are rather unique for particular construction (depending on many factors ). and "real photographers don't use Photoshop" 🙂

Spoken like a true non-user. Besides, I never said software was the only way to go.😛

If you only want to spend time on a project and lack a destructive bent, you can always mount something like a magnifiying glass in 2 black cardboard/pvc tubes, one sliding inside the other to achieve focus -- unless you adhere to another self-made rule about "real photogs don't use or own SLRs." 😛

Those Russian concoctions look real uncomfortable to wear on your eye anyway. If you want to use them on a Bessa, you also need a lot of skill to fit and properly adjust a rangefinder cam to them 😀

The Sima soft focus lens, the Kodak VPK and their counterpart in Nikon's "Fun Fun lens set" use the same meniscus construction for the effect.
