Hi,

I've been searching high and low for information regarding the self timer for M7. One review I read mentioned that there isn't any on the M7.

I appreciate if anyone can confirm this. TIA!

The Leica M7 does not have a self timer. You can get timer accessories, though.

Thanks a lot for the response. I was hoping that it's on the M7 🙁 .

Now my next question will be whether the M6 got self timer. Or which M camera got self timer? I'll prefer the timer be in the camera as i want to carry minimum accessories for a one-camera-one-lens setup.

Go to cameraquest.com to look it up.

Anyway, why do you need a self timer? To photograph yourself?

Thanks for the link. It seems that only the M3 has self timer ... 🙁

Need the self time so that I can be in the picture when taking those group photos. I rather trust my tripod than asking someone else to take the picture as they'll usually messed up the picture. I also like to take those "i've been there" kind of pics as a record in addition to normal photography.

That is the least of my worries. The things I worry about are:
  1. people don't know how to use a manual camera. 🙁
  2. people who know how to do it will run away.......with the camera. :bang:

Self-timer? What do you want for $3500.00? Seriously, I experience the same frustration with the lack of self-timer on recent Leica rangefinders. I use an air release from time to time. I bought a small timer that screwed into the shutter release button and it sprang apart like a child's toy on the first day. Oh, well.

It's a pity that a simple yet important feature has been dropped (at least for me). Photographers sometimes do shelf portraits too.

Think I'll try to look into other M mount cameras with a self timer. I hope that Leica will introduce the self timer back when they release the digital m.

Thanks a lot for all your inputs. I learned something everytime I browse this forum, thanks!

Inbuilt self-timers complement the mechanical nature of old Leica M bodies in a way far more convincing than plastic battery covers. 🙂 Plus, you get a 2-sec shutter speed when combined with Bulb.

Leica *claims* that they were not able to find the space in the original M body for both the electronics+batteries and a selftimer. With modern-day miniaturisation that claim seems a bit outdated.

I quite often find the self timer useful for long exposures on my CLE when im not carrying the whole tripod and cable release deal. I just rest in on a table or something and set the timer off.

You can buy some self-timers from Adorama or BH Photo (and probalby many other photo stores). I bought mine from a local store for the same reasons that you're quoting but the main one is that many people, even the ones who say that they know, in fact don't know how to operate mechanical cameras. I recently tested the device by taking pictures of my brother and myself. It works fine. Looks a bit odd and is a bit hard to set up, but just like anything else mechanical, it takes some time to get used to it.
