I have a beautiful black MP but it has one annoying deficiency: no self timer. Is it possible to use the Leica screw mount timer which I think is called a APDOO.This is a separate timer but I am not sure if it can be used on my MP.Is there an adapter?
Thanks MIERS

Self timer for MP

Thank you for that. That is what I needed to know.I have done a little searching and at this stage it appears the OZTNO is more expensive than the timer. The OZTNO being the M adapter. But a self timer would be useful to me.I am surprised there isnt a built in one.
Thanks again Miers

Well, I got the APDOO and the OZTNO adapter but it seems I have something wrong or an adjustment is required.
1-Both fit perfectly on the MP
2-Both work perfectly when separated.
3-But the shutter is not released when set up to operate together.4-I have adjusted a small screw deep inside the APDOO collar. This appears to be the only adjustment.
5-But when the screw is adjusted to what appears to me to be sufficient depth there is not enough strength in the spring to push down the the shutter release.6-The plunger on the APDOO seems to retract rather than push/plunge.
7-Are there two springs in the APDOO😱ne for retraction and one for plunge?
8-Or is the spring in the APDOO just too weak?
9-Or should I continue to to adjust in the hope I get the adjustment screw correct depth?
Any sugestions would be appreciated.

Hi, Miers,

I think the problem is at the adaptor/OZTNO. I have tried a few OZTNOs on MP and found that if the adaptor was not screwed on deeply then the shutter couldn't be released. The problem you mention is nothing to do with the spring of APDOO. I suggest you try the OZTNO on MP and notice whether this adaptor is deeply screwed onto the shutter release button. Try to compare the working of OZTNO to that of a cable release then you'll understand what I mean.

Rgds, Luiz

You might be able to locate a non-Leica self timer. Back in the 1950's and 60's several companies marketed them. They'll fit any camera with a standard cable release socket but required a "Leica nipple" to work with thread mount Leicas, older Canon rangefinders, and Yashica TLR's.
