Guys,

I've almost convinced myself to sell my R-D1s and am after a little advice on possible value. My plan is to purchase an Micro 4/3rds camera as a replacement. I know that there will be a step down in image quality but I already have a Zeiss ZI and have a need for something smaller and faster to operate.

What's the best way to go about selling an R-D1s? Should I just place it in the classifieds here or go down the eBay route? Any ideas on price (it comes in original packaging, manuals, etc)?

Finally, if posting this here is inappropriate then I apologise and by all means remove the post.

Thanks for any advice
Andy

if i may,...as an rd-1 user, i've been interested in 4/3rds, and as a way of introducing myself to that experience i picked up an oly 330 as i also had some leica r-lenses. realizing that this isn't the latest by any means, and it isn't a micro 4/3rds,... i have to say, i haven't been excited with the results.
last week i did a session and was debating which camera to use. i decided on the rd-1 with 28 and 35 leica lenses, as it was going to be available lighting with four or five people moving through the scene. using the rd-1 was the way to go. fast, intuitive, and hand held with relatively slow shutter speeds. the rd-1 was refreshing to use and fairly quiet and un-noticeable. i'm glad i had it available.
as to selling, if you are certain you want to, just list it in the classifieds here. people here know what they are and it will go to someone who will enjoy it.
good luck.

Thanks tajart. I know the R-D1 is a fine camera but I'm finding that I use it a lot less than I used to. In terms of Micro 4/3rds, my head has been turned by the latest Lumix DMC-GF1 that I've had the pleasure to briefly test while here in Japan. I like the handling of the camera and also the idea that I'm able mount my current M-mount lens.

I'll be adding the R-D1s to classifieds on my return to London (next Monday).

Thanks again
Andy

Andy,

Happy and sorry for you at the same time, if you know what I mean.

I would look at EvilBay around the world to see what current prices are. The lack of sales history is about the only thing that I think the classifieds here do not do well. Heck, EvilBay has gotten worse on this over the year (as their volume has increased).

Do some searches for folks who have posted here about selling recently and reach out to them through email or PM. Perhaps folks who have said they just bought one might be a good resource too.

m4/3s is a seductive format/system. While I've read all the stuff on picture quality being less, IMHO nothing is a good as Kodachrome 64 was so it doesn't matter any more. I find the quality I get from my GR-D I quite acceptable and it's even smaller.

Check out White over by you and KEH.com over on this side of the pond as reference points too. Good luck.

Thanks for the pointers Bill. I had a look at the prices over here a few days ago and interestingly the R-D1s (I assume new) is available for ¥198,000. For anyone that's interested the R-D1xG goes for ¥299,800 so quite a bump.

price wise, I have seen 2 for sale in the UK shops very recently (this month).
MINT R-D1 was £790 with a 6-month full warranty. Without warranty of all sort, that should be £100 down, I would expect.
cheers

I had my mint RD-1 with 15 and 28mm lens here in the classifieds and I got
plenty PM's with questions like, how much will it be without the case, without the 12mm,
without the etc, I am willing to pay this, would you....
It drove me nuts!
I placed the ad at eBay with a BUY NOW option and it was sold within 5 hours!
