I am glad you asked, it's a fair question, hope my answer makes sense to you. Let's see - 2 extra epson batteries cost around $100. My cost was $1650 total. The refurbs varied from looking a bit funky with focusing or other problems to ones like mine which appeared brand new in an unopened original box even with a special promotion for a free case they offered 2 years ago, and more importantly it's a perfectly functioning and focusing unit, under epson warranty, and my guarantee. You can't find either the camera or the batteries now, (batteries are discontinued on epson store), recent e-bay sales for used RD-1 around $1800. These are some of the reasons. i guess the basic answer is that I feel it's worth at least this price. best....Peter
