Selling my dad's Nikon S and extras

Structurally, the box is sound. But it is still a cardboard box. I didn't try to clean it off. It's got the dirt of 54 years accumulated on it. It also looks as though there is some water marks on the exterior of the inside box (when it's time to sell, I'll take photos of that, too). So, this is obviously not a mint box. It's one that's spent time in closets and garages.

The gold lettering is a memory on the top and front. The gold still looks fairly decent in the back. I'm guessing it probably was up against a wall and was less exposed.

I also took a shot of the stamp inside the box because I know some people enjoy looking at those sort of things out of historical interest.

Alane,
The camera is easy to operate. No special "gotcha's" like on some other cameras. Let us know how the film comes out. The "S" is a common model, but the box and papers make this one a "stand-out".

I have focusing problems, and I don't want to submit a bunch of fuzzy photos. I had a retinal tear that required laser surgery when I was in my 20s, and my right eye never has been the same. I'll probably just use my left to help avoid problems.

I was just as glad when cameras came out with auto focus and eliminated that worry for me! Of course, shortly after that, I got a management job at a paper and no longer took photos, anyhow.

My dad got a kick out of the fact that the silica gel packet actually had any value. 🙂

I had an idea to pull out three of the Korea slides. He's got box-fulls of these.

I held them up to a lightbulb and then macro focused my digicam. Not a perfect way of doing it, but still fun. I thought if anyone decides they do actually want it, they could have a few samples from when the camera was fresh out of the box.

You've got a pretty darned smart dad. He shot Kodachromes, so they held up all these years. The middle shot might have been taken with the telephoto. The other two were definitely taken with the 5cm (50mm) lens. All the shots are wonderful.

Wow, these are great photos! A 50+ year timeslip. They may have been ordinary shots back then, but they're certainly special now. Thanks for posting them 🙂

welcome alane. i envy you...and great shots by your father!!
if i was in your position, i'd keep the camera kit. i have 2 of them (unfortunately, none of which has a history like yours that i am aware of) and have enjoyed each outing with them. the pictures this magnificent camera produces still blows me away. i've done the fully automated digital thing and continually return to the trustee manual RF. I've managed to salvage my older Nikon S, the shutter is full of patches of my acrylic black paint...and still working! whatever, you decide, hope all is well.

Wow, simply wow! especially the 3rd photo. Please tell your dad that he has a good eye on capturing people in pictures.

I would second or third or fourth 🙂 the suggestion for you to keep this camera with the slides. The next generation in your family will thank you for it.

Thanks for sharing these. I don't have such fortune to inherit something that cool (my dad is the best in the world, but he's not a photographer). I have to start the tradition for my daughter 🙂

The 35/2.5 lens and finder on the EBay camera are worth at least $100 more than the 135/3.5.

I figured similar because Alane's kit has a Vari-focal finder.
