Lately there have been a number of remarkably active, constructive and informative threads running about particular lenses. Most have been posted under the "Leica M series" catchall, but some are under "M8", "Hexar" etc. Same on the LTM side.
Do we really need this balkanization by bodies? Does anyone else support the idea of a "Lens Performance Discussion" forum?
What say ye?

we used to have a section that was simply called 'optics', i liked it but the same thing happened in there as well...i.e. some folks preferred to start their threads about lenses in the leica m section or the ltm section and some used the optics section. the threads were still all over the place.

I'd be in support of trying it again-- the lens/optics threads are my favorite to follow, and can be difficult to track with them being posted in the various body specific categories.
A lens/optics category would be great (and could make searching easier).

Hmmm.... could the mods move topics to where they belong?
Yeah I guess I see the problem, Joe. But "Optics" is pretty bland as a forum title. Maybe if we called it "Arguing Over Lenses"?

don't misunderstand, i liked the forum and would be fine with it's return.
i would p.m. stephen and ask him about it.
the mods cannot create or delete a forum.
i will also move this thread into the feedback section.

OK. I'm 55 years old. I've resigned myself to seeing stuff I grew up with referred to as "CLASSIC."
Anything 30+ years old (at introduction) is now "CLASSIC."

The best camera is one that still works!
I think it's great when someone starts a thread with 'Summilux 75 pics' ... 'Noctilux pics' or whatever! It's an excellent resource for people who are interested in a particular lens that they may be thinking of buying and it does always seem to open up some interesting discussions. The photos that get posted with different types of film and often M8 and RD-1 as well are only web images admittedly but it can still give you a fair idea of various characteristics.
After all ... one of the most important things when taking a photo, aside from the person pressing the shutter, is the glass surely. It has a major influence on the outcome! Call it 'lens chat' ... 'show us your optics' ... whatever it wouldn't really matter but I do think it would be a good thing.

In case anybody missed it, Stephen has already added a lenses and optics forum.
