Separating the FSU Hard Core from the Possers

It should be enough 🙂 I'm not sure who's the supreme court for such cases though. Who is the hardest of hardcore FSU around? Not me having only one Zorki and one Kiev...and also possess german crap like Contax, Leica... (But hey, I got seven different 50mm FSU lenses 😀)

I like your rationale on costs. Maybe the logo should be:

"This shirt cost more than my FSU camera."

Someone, I'm too lazy to look back, asked why Russia and rangefinders. Maybe it was a joke, since this is the FSU (Former Soviet Union) forum, but there are a lot of cool rangefinder camera available from the FSU era that are really cheap. Add in wierd lettering, kind of a Cracker-Jack thrill since you never know what you really are going to get, and that they are cheap enough to take a wackat taking apart and messing with. The look like Leica's (maybe better in the case of the Zorki 6 IMHO) and Contax cameras, and if you are lucky, shoot almost as well.

Any fluent Russian speakers (writers) here? I'd like to include some Cryllic (sp?) text, but I don't want to repeat the 1980s when people were running around with Japanesse characters that they thought meant "Strength & Courage" when the actually said "This Way Up" or "Caution Fragile".

My thought was something understated, so I can wear it in the company of my wife. A red t-shirt with a breast logo in dark gray ink, or maybe a gray shirt with red lettering. I like black, but I'm not sure. Something like the RFf stylized logo with "www.rangefinder.com" and "FSU Forum" under it with a circle of the FSU camera and optic logos around it. Maybe make it look like a simulated lens front? Maybe in text below that (in Russian?) one of the mottos that have been passed around.

My latest thought for a motto is something along the lines:

Proving it doesn't take an expensive camera to take good pics.
It ain't the camera, its the photographer.

Something like that.

Just put an offer in on a house, the wife is probably not going to be be allowing me free time soon, but I may look at this project as therapy.

PS. I like the the t-Shirt with manual/camera on it.

Ok, so the Rocky and Bullwinkle/Boris and Natasha reference was too obscure.
So:
Отделять poseurs бывшийа Советский Союз от серьезного.
"Poseur" wouldn't translate and I changed "hardcore" to "serious" but this is the title of this thread in Russian according to the Babel Fish translation page.

Or:
Я цифрово не брошен вызов; те увидеть число, котор я использую?
I don't speak/read russian, so if these phrase are unintentionally rude or obscene, I apologize.

nice translations, but they're both completely unintellegible 🙂

"This shirt is worth more than my Soviet camera" would be "Эта футболка более ценная чем мой Советский фотоаппарат". Now if you run around with this in Russia you're quite likely to either amuse or insult people with it.

"Photographs are taken by photographers, not cameras" would be "Фотографии снимает не камера, а фотограф".

"I'm not a camera, I'm a tank" is "Я не фотоаппарат. Я танк.". In Russian, "I'm not a photographer, I'm a tank driver" sounds even better: "Я не фотограф. Я танкист."

"My other camera is digital" is "Другой фотоаппарат у меня цифровой". (My personal favourite.)

So, they would make the perfect tatoos for 20 year olds bored by all the Japanese/Chinese pictographic tatoos every one elses has!😀
I'm not surprised they make no sense! BabelFish is a literal, word for word translation program.
And while helpful to some one like me--I've used it to translate web pages with decidedly odd results--is certainly no substitute for a person who can speak/read the language.
I would never wear a t-shirt that said "this t-shirt cost more than my Soviet camera"; it is insulting and needlessly so.
So how should the two phrases/sentences I posted read?
The first was: Seperating the Former Soviet Union poseurs from the serious(hardcore wouldn't translate via Babel Fish)
And the second was: I am not digitally challenged; want to see the digit I use?
 
I apoligize if I offended anyone, that is why I said "something like" the shirt costs more than my camera. What conotation or baggage does "Soviet" carry in Russia now? Communist, stalinst, Russian, or a combination of all those together. Kind of like our Confederate Southern supporters from the Civil War days (Like some of our Georgians, not like your Georgians)? My wifes friends are a married couple. She is Russian, he is Ukranian. He loves Ronald Reagan and hates Russians (but he married one?)?

Are FSU cameras relativly expensive in the FSU? I would think not?

Anyway, I like the tank quotes, that is definately true!

On Large Format Photography Forum, they were talking about camera tattoo's.

Now all my 35mm cameras are leaning towards FSU. all my 35mm bodies and lenses are FSU.

Anyways, on LFPF someone mentioned they have a tattoo of the chinese for "photographer".

I'd love to get a rosetta stone script of 'photographer' in every language (or all the countries I have got to visit) - simply what is the Russian for 'Photographer' ? Any variation in spelling or dialect or slangs?
 
There is, of course, always Ambrose Bierce and his Devil's Dictionary (for those of you familiar with him). The definition of photograph is:

"A picture painted by the sun without instruction in art. It is a little better than the work of an Apache, but not quite so good as that of a Cheyenne."

While of questionable taste, in Russian, it might not even register. Probably not a good option though, now that I think about it. Just ignore this entire post 🙄.

For the really hardcore, then forget tatoo's. Use an I-22 as a branding iron.
