Canada September Toronto RFF gathering How is the weekend of the 10th for you all?

Ya, but does it have skylights? :)

Got to check the calendar, and with the social coordinator, mainly with the social coordinator.

Hi Frank,

what is the significance of skylights in a pub. I don't think I have ever seen a pub with skylights. Is this a pro or con?

Just wondering

Jan

I just checked my calendar, and I am not on call for once! So I can be there, wherever. The Rhino in Parkdale has a bank of north facing windows at the front, gives nice light. And it's air conditioned.

Victor,
The Rino sounds cool but that will be for another time because of the camera show, we are meeting in the wilds of York Region.

Bill

Perhaps for the folks who don't want to or can't make it to the camera show in Thornhill, our get together in the afternoon at a pub could be located near the north end of the Yonge St. subway line. It's fairly close to the camera show location and easy for the down-towners to get to by public transit without the need for a transfer to a bus line.

That could work nicely, anybody know Yonge north of the 401 or even Lawerence well enough to recomend an establishment that could remotely fit our requirements? I am a little hazy when it gets north of Sporting Life when it comes to pubs.

Bill

Okay, it's time to think about next weekend:

1.) Who is planning to attend the Thornhill camera show on Sunday, Sept.11, and possibly getting together for drinks after the show?

2.) Who is planning NOT to attend the Thornhill camera show, but IS planning on getting together in the afternoon for drinks with some GTA RFF members on Sunday, Sept. 11 (depending on the location selected)?

3.) Anybody know Yonge Street north of the 401 well enough to recommend a good pub for us to meet at after the camera show in Thornhill?

this sucks, I got scheduled into work. I am going to have to take a pass guys, I was looking forward to it. The one up shot is my wallet is safe.

Bill

Camera Show: nope, no money, too much stuff already. Pub: yes. Time? Location? I don't know much about the north...

Sorry about that, Bill!

Victor, can you get yourself on the Yonge St. subway line heading north? Get off at the last stop (Finch?) and we'll give you directions from there once we know where we're going. :)

It turns out I have a family event that day, so I'll have to pass as well. Sorry to miss it!

Gene

Sorry about that too, Gene!

Let's hear from those who are going to make it. If there is no response then we'll just let it go.

Okay, I combined a motorcycle ride with a re-con mission this afternoon. We have a choice. There is a Black Sheep Pub just north of the Sheppard subway station on the east side of Yonge St. or there is the Miller Tavern, just south of the Don Mills subway station, also on the east side of Yonge St.

Any preference?

Sundays aren't good for me, having to travel back to Rocha-cha (unless I'm on holidays) for work Monday morning. I'd be up for a Saturday sometime.

Trius

Sorry to hear that, Trius! Next time we could make it a Saturday for you.

My impression of the outside of the 2 establishments is that the Miller Tavern is more upscale.

This afternoon I ended up riding my motorcycle all the way down Yonge St., along Queen St. (really congested) and back up Victoria Park. Lots of gear changes between 1st and 2nd, not a pleasant experience on an older BMW which shifts with tractor-like finesse. She'd be much happier on the autobahn!

Hey Frank,

I'm partial to anything located on the subway line - Miller Tavern sounds fine to me.

Matt

Ahhhh.. the old "Jolly Miller".. aka "The Miller Tavern" as it's called now.. Back in the "old days" I'd go there with some buddies and we'd do the standard "drinkin" and "dancin with women" sort of thing :)

I think now though, it's a bit too "upscale" for this group ;)

I would opt for The Black Sheep or The Frog and Firkin (both near to Yonge and Sheppard).

Cheers
Dave
