I got a beautiful Serenar 28mm f3.5 lens but with no matching front lens cap. As long as I don't have the original cap meant for this lens, I was wondering which more common lens cap type would fit it well? I measured the inner and outer diameter, which are about 33 and 36mm. What about filters?

Toni,

I have an early chrome version of this lens, and its one of my favorites for B&W. I was able to secure an original vintage metal Canon cap at Adorama, but having a salesman digging through draws was asking for a favor.

The filter size is kinda rare, but I found a step up ring for about six bucks. I suggest using 39mm filters; this way you are using a standard size that is commonly used with Leica lenses.

As you know, this little flat lense is like a pancake, but with a step-up ring and filter it looks like its wearing a hood.

The size is generally referred to as 'A36' because it's a 36mm slip-on type. It was a common size used by Leica among many others. That size is available new, and cheap, from Filter Find. Or used and collectible for $100+ for rare Leica caps.

ok...

ok...

Ok so it is the Leica A36 size then. I know about that one since I once had a lens with that filter/cap size.. so I know where to look for it 🙂
