Yer 240 was built by Volvo before Ford involvement. I have driven several more recent Volvos and come away unimpressed with ergonomics, fit & finish. They are not for me.
My brother picked up a new BMW 335 xi last week. I want that car.
My XC70 Cross Country is comparatively recent and I think it's probably the best car we've ever had. Sample of one mind you but that's my experience. Check out the crash data on the "new" BMW designs before you buy. I think it was the 5 model that was recently featured on Boston news as doing particularly badly in side-impact crashes. Having been in a bad crash (side-impact) and also wanting to protect my family crash data is always first on my priority list for new wheels.
Every time I see a parked car with one of those silly, fugly "Bumper Badgers" stuck on the back (testimony to an apparently dead driving art), I think of the first time I saw an XC70 and thought, "Well, someone's still thinking..."
