set of cards?

a friend of mine, who's ex-husband is a painter, suggested that i get some of my images printed into a set of cards.
her ex would often paint images and have them made into cards and they sold well.
seems many folks will pay a few dollars for (almost) original art that can be framed or sent in the mail..it's cheaper than buying a painting.
anyone here ever try this?
what sort of results did you have?

i'm thinking about it, thinking that some of my vegetable shots might sell at the farmer's market.

While I have not sold any yet, I have been making my own inkjet printed cards for several years. Check out Red River paper for their great selection of card stock, envelopes and card boxes.

My wife and I use my cards exclusively when sending cards to folks and they have gotten me many compliments. We have used my custom cards for Christmas cards for the past several years.

Finally, here is link to a photographer who, in addition to selling prints of his work, also sells cards - $20/box of 5 cards.

I am pulling the plug and retiring on May 1 of this year and hope to use card and print sales to get cash to pay for paper and ink for my other projects.

I get blank cards with envelopes from Freestyle, and print my photos on them. They have sold fairly well at $3.50 each or $15 for a package of five. We have several people in our art association that also do that. Makes for nice sales at an art show and gets your name out. Of course I also print my contact info on the back.

I print my own. I have an Epson R3000 printer that does great color and B+W.

I think to make a go of selling the cards for a decent profit you probably need to print your own; however, I have not done extensive research on card printing services. And while cost is certainly an important consideration, quality is just as important, if not more so.

locally, i can get cards printed on card stock for under $2.00 incl tax.
that's 5x7 folded cards.
they seem to sell for about $5. each…5 for $20.

I make cards on a regular basis: A2 size usually. Each is signed and on fine art paper. When I've done this for clients, the design and print product runs about $8 per card.

Some people I send cards to have been collecting them, occasionally matting and framing them.

It's fun, I usually just make them for me because the market is pretty crowded for artist cards.
