Ignore It (It'll go away)
I've been waiting for this show and wanting to see it, but I haven't been able to get to it with the holidays, etc. It closes soon. I'm seriously thinking about doing a road trip for this weekend (Sunday). Anyone seen this or planning to see it soon??

Hi Ray! Had no idea it was happening. Saw the Egglerston show at SF MOMA a few years ago and it was terrific. I cannot make it to LA this weekend, sadly. Bingley says he'll be at the HCB show again this Saturday, and I may be there as well. Best wishes for a healthy new year.

Hi Bob, same to you. Happy New Year. Unfortunately, I can't make the HCB show this Saturday. Although, I've been wanting to get in there again. The Eggleston show is up until the 16th, so you have a little more time.

LACMA is about 60 miles from where we live and someone mentioned this show in another RFF thread...our two kids are home from college and the wife wants to do something while they are here...my daughter mentioned LACMA and then I found the thread about some RFFer getting together there...although I may not make the meet I would still like to see this exhibit...and I wasn't aware it was ending on the 16th...

Ride, dive, shoot.
Just for those who might not know, Los Angeles is not in the SF Bay Area. It's several hundred miles to the south of San Francisco. It's about a 7 hour drive.
5.5 if you drive like hell.
I really wish the bullet train was here already...
Oh it's pretty late but happy new year guys!

I'm still trying to work out the logistics, but if you get by there on Sunday, look around for a guy with a man purse.
@John, I was down there last year. I knew the show was coming, so we stopped by the museum hoping it had started. This was back in late July.
I've ridden with Sug. He could get there in 5.5 hours on his 'umph.

I've made it to LA in 5 hours. Yes I drive like a maniac. But last weekend was a living nightmare and made it home from LA in 11 hours. Damn.

Were you caught in that mess at Grapevine? Wondering if I should go 101.

I was dab in the middle of the mess. I was on top of the hill for about 3 hours, barely moving only to find they shut down the 5 and had to turn back to take the 101. Nightmare....
If it's not raining, take the 5. 101 sucks when you're in a hurry.

If it's the same show that was at the MOMA in New York last year or the year before, which I think it is, GO.
I've never been a big fan of color photography but those prints are gorgeous. It looks surprisingly contemporary and you can see his influence is still really strong in modern color photography. Made me start shooting color.

I would really, really like to go to this, but I'd have a hard time making it down to San Jose on Sunday, let alone LA. If I were going to go, though, it would be on 101. An extra couple of hours, usually, but much more civilized and much better scenery.
There was a time in the past that I thought Eggleston was overrated. Seeing his dye transfer prints up close really changed my mind.

If you can't drive to LA, make sure you visit the current exhibit at http://pier24.org/
They have a large gallery of the classic Eggleston prints. You have to book in advance, so do it sooner rather than later!

I think thats true of all art. I never thought much of Rembrandt, then I saw his Night Watch in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam... it all became clear.

Been there done that...if the weather is clear take the 5...anything other than clear skies find another route...fog or snow will shut that place down...Cloudy and warm should be fine...
Oh, yeah...the wife says Sunday at the LACMA sounds like a good idea...

OK, 4 hours and 11 minutes. You've got to spill the beans.
From Beverly & Rampart Blvd. in LA to Broadway & El Camino in Burlingame is 397 miles. An average of just under 95 MPH.
Let's start with the vehicle and go from there. If you claim it was done on your Aprilia you'll lose what slim credibility you already possess.
