I thought I 'd start this thread to let any interested SF Bay Area RFF members know that Longs Drugs Store is having a sale on Fuji Superia film. The 'the 4+1 package' (24 exxp. [120 total exposures]) is going for $7.99 and the 200 Superia was discounted as well. This was at the store in San Bruno (Bayhill Center at San Bruno Ave. & Cherry Ave.). I think the Kodak HD was on sale as well. Anyways, check your local Longs for the sale if you're interested.

Thanks RayPA, that's what I've been using lately. I'll check if the sales are on in the north bay.
 
Is Superia your film of choice for inexpensive color? I am torn right now about what to use. I'm not sure I like the color of the superia - it's so contrasty. Seems to block up. I love 400UC but that's too expensive, as is even 400HD (which is grainy to boot).

Like you, I usually use 400UC, but it is expensive. I've not shot a lot with the HD, and don't know if I like it much. The UC has spoiled me. I don't shoot a lot of color, comparatively speaking, but when I do (for family events, etc.) I usually grab the yellow box, Gold or something like that.

Even factoring 20% shipping the B&H price is better by about half-a-cent/shot ;.

My beloved Kaufman's Cameras in San Bruno is closing shop. (Randy, the Retinas are gone!). They have a bunch of blow-out bins and sales, including a couple of film scanners. They had a box of "stuff" for $50, which I picked through it and bought a bunch of Kodak Series VI filters. They've got bulk loaders, camera cases, enlargers, a bunch of old school stuff. Anyway, they're closing doors in early May. FYI.

Anyone compare this film to Gold 200? When Walgreen's had that on sale a few months back I skeptically tried some and was very pleased. A bit grainy but the colors are gorgeous and importantly dead on when scanned with my LS-4000. So I bought a bunch. Scans even easier than Gold 100 or 400UC, IMO.

Yep, I dropped by there last week hoping to pick up that Retina IIa I was fondling a few weeks ago. But someone beat me to it. Oh well, like I needed yet another camera! Did find an interesting Metrawatt Metrastart light meter that I got for a song. Very nice, heavy-duty meter. Thanks again for telling me about Kaufman's before they closed that store.

Rich, are you referring to comparing Fuji Superia to Gold 200?

Hi Ray,

Yes, any and all. I've limited experience with the Fuji Superia line as to how well they generally scan.

I've no problems scanning Superia. I prefer 400UC, but Superia has been good for me. UC seems to have lots of punch. Superia seems a little less "aggressive" (if that make any sense), but that's a good thing. I think I might prefer Superia to Kodak HD. My jury's still out on that one.

I would but I just spent too much money recently on gear. Bought a SL66 kit and spent a couple c' notes on CLA and some repair, also decided to get my Rollei 35T, Ricoh 519 and Rolleiflex 2.8E fully CLA'd too. Good news is they now all work perfectly. Bad news is no more dough for all the other gear I want (and still need!)....
