California (Bay Area, Northern) SFMoma opens May 14

Hi all you Bay Area/nearby RFFers. If you didn't already know, the SF Museum of Modern Art is finally reopening on May 14. There are member preview days prior to that.

I'm going primarily just to see the new spaces that've been created in the reconstruction of this wonderful public resource. But there's also what looks like an interesting photography 'survey' exhibition that looks at the photography trends in California and the West over the past two centuries.

Enjoy. If no one beats me to it, I'll report back on my first impressions of the place, especially on the quality of beer served in the cafe.

I won't be able to get there on May 14, Jamie, but am really looking forward to seeing the new place over the summer.

I'm a charter member and we had early preview day last week. There are some "beta" aspects to the whole setup right now, but it is totally expected and I am happy to be a beta tester. 😉 Proximity-aware guided tour app was quite sweet.

I was with my wife who's a painter (and we wanted to checkout all new things about the museum itself) so we didn't spend a whole lot of time in photography area, but enjoyed it very much. I definitely need to spend more time there soon.

Finally we can get back to our Beer & Gear with SFMOMA visit again. 😉

Really looking forward to seeing the new spaces. The last time I was there was the Garry Winogrand exhibit which ended fairly soon or directly before they closed down for the remodel.

Beer AND gear? Hmm. That's intriguing. 🙂

I went to the charter members viewing and didn't get very excited about the building, but I had a fine time in the exhibits. Lots of great stuff from the permanent collection on display, VAST space for photography, big show about photography and the West, interesting images in show about photography interrupting time (the theme didn't seem as important as the individual images).

Peering through my lens, I see plenty of B&G in our future.
