Interesting new compact lens at a very low price. 35mm f2.2 near-pancake for mirrorless cameras is fine by me. I wouldn't mind this for my Panasonic S5 or Leica SL2-S at all.

This is a nice addition to the L system, but for me it is still not compact enough for S9.

I am waiting for the Viltrox 28mm f4.5 in L-mount. Coupled with the Panasonic 18-40mm, it would make the perfect travel kit for me.

close focus is about 30 cm, or 1 foot -- sorry, didn't measure it (only guessed).
the autofocus is on the slow side. if you depend on responsive and safe automatic focusing, this might not be the lens for you.

i only have it (L-mount, used on an S9) since 1 day, so i can't comment more (so far).

and, as recently a Q3 sneaked into my cupboard, i may be too distracted to gain a lot of experience for the time being.

however, if you have specific questions, i'll try to answer to my best abilities.

cheers,
sebastian

@sebastel Wow, great to know someone here has one. Please let us know your experiences with the lens as you get a chance to use it. I feel like that for the price, it is hard to go wrong as long as the lens is well made and reliable.

How slow is slow? Have you tried it on an older contrast detection AF body?

Nice size and great price for an AF lens. I think on the S5 some of the Voigtlander lenses like the 35mm f/2.5, 35mm f/1.4 Nokton, and 40mm f/1.4 Nokton are more compact with an L-M adapter, but of course there’s no autofocus and the price is about 3x or more.

Exactly, those lenses cost way more and lack autofocus. Something like this should be useful as a grab-and-go street or candid shooter. This lens looks shorter than a Nokton 35/1.4 with adapter, surprisingly. I just put the Olympus 17mm f1.8 on the G9 II, and it protrudes about the same as this lens does on the S5, which has a similar body design. You can see how small it is here:

my only L-mount body is the S9.

Let me put it this way: I switch the autofocus off, and I'll use the "AF ON" button to pre-focus, kind of emulating the snap focus method common on the Ricoh GR. Does this explain clearly enough how slow it is? It's not completely unuseable, but especially when you're in the streets, you don't want to wait for the AF to finish its hunting while you want to take a picture "NOW".
🙂

mounting and unmounting the lens is difficult, as the bayonet - at least on my lens - is _very_ tight. since there is almost no surface on the lens to grip, I needed some rubber (actually, an old bicycle tube) to be able to twist it into place, respectively remove it.

cheers,
sebastian
