Hi there,

I get a bit of a problem using the Snapshot Skopar 25/4 with a polariser... I've got a B+W polariser which the lens shade will not fit over (since it tries to slide round the filter rather than attach onto the filter) - this gives me quite a problem with flare.

Anyone managed to get round this? I try my best shading with my hand (when I remember) but it's a bit of a pain.

Cheers for any help.

Dave.

Doesn't the shade of any CV lens screw in inside the filter? I'd assume it works the same with a pol filter. Only the lens cap slides over the sun shade, IIRC.

It's a bit different on the Skopar.. maybe you can see it on this pic http://www.cameraquest.com/jpg5/voigtb17.jpg
The little shade screws onto a separate thread which is on the outside of the lens barrel.. you can see the filter thread still unused on the inside surface about 2/3 of the way down the inside of the shade.
I think the intention is that if you have a filter attached it won't change the position of the shade.. I assume to avoid vignetting. But the B+W polariser is too fat to allow the shade to screw back on round it.
(Apologies.. I don't think I'm describing any of this very well!)

I've got the same problem with the CV 90 mm and B+W polariser. All other filters are fine. I'm wondering if anyone does a skinnier 39mm polariser.

Wouldn't it be possible to mount a generic 39mm shade on to the filter instead of using the original shade? Since the shade must be quite short on a wide it might be enough with one or two empty filter rings when the polarizer is there allready. I haven't tried it myself, just a thought. As for the CV90/3.5, the collapsible Elmar-C shade might be a solution, if You ca find it.

I like the idea of a couple of empty filter rings.. that would be about the size of the original shade. Can you get empty filter rings or do I have to empty them myself (with a hammer)?
Not sure about whether the rectangular hood would fir Mark.. if it screws onto the same thread (which I think it has to) then it'll probably have the same problem.

Use fed extension rings

Use fed extension rings

FED made extension rings, which have the 39mm thread, cost about $10 on ebay, and u get a bunch of them, some very thin. I have a set, and would try it if I had a 25 skopar. Maybe someone else does and can try.

Still not found a solution but my latest ploy is to use a 39-52 step up ring then stick a 52mm polariser on that and use the lens shade from my 50/1.5 Nokton. I suspect it may vignette for scotland but given the 52 is a fair bit wider I might just get away with it!
