I'm looking for software that will allow me to layer a photo on another photo that I can shape as a thought bubble. I don't need to enter text.

The affect I am looking for is someone that is sleeping in Photo#1, and the thought bubble (Photo #2) is what they are dreaming about (hope this makes sense).

I have Photoscape, GIMP, Irfanview, and a few other small packages that came with Vista. Photoscape allows you to add a thought bubble but not an image shaped as one. I don't have Photoshop or the other high end programs etc...

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

I don't use GIMP but, as I understand it, you should be able to do this in a way similar to how one might approach it in Photoshop. Mind you, there are any number of ways this can be done, I suggest one possibility ...

1. Open base image.

2. Copy secondary image (to be in thought bubble) to base image file.

3. Draw thought bubble outline on third layer.

4. Select thought bubble and apply as mask to secondary layer. You will then be able to reposition as needed.

Things to consider ...

- Both images should be in the same color space.

- In a perfect world both images would be at the same resolution.

- If both images are at the same resolution you'll be able to shrink the thought bubble but it will fall apart if you enlarge it.
