ISO 1600 renders a nice balance of grain and texture, at least for my tastes.

Adam / huntjump: i totally agree. i find that 1600 iso is very useable and gives an unique look. Any suggestions on the film type settings ?

Adam, nice!
I always shot the R-D1 @ ISO 800 and 1600 for that very reason.
I also pushed the ISO3200 further regularly to 3200/6400 in low light.
Ray, I never shot JPG, but shot RAW and developed in Lightroom.
With the huge advances in Lightroom from Lr2, that I used back then with the R-D1 to Lr4, the files should look a lot better now with high ISO settings.
… oh and Ray, great shot with a beautiful look ;-)

Ray, are you only using the out of camera .jpegs? Although they are good, there is so much more scope available using the raws with epson raw or adobe camera raw.

yeah...i am using jpg, but modded in ps and saved as tif.
i am awre of the advantages of raw.
currently i am mucking around with the film type,
very curious Low Saturation/Contrast vs High Contrast
effects.
any comments on the film types ?

When you say iso 3200 and 6400, are you just doing as you would with film, underexposing at capture and then pushing it up in post?

I cant speak for others, but I generally shoot at ISO 1600 and push in LR. However, the R-D1 also can be set -2EV to +2EV, so you can shoot 3200 equivalent, essentially when utilizing those on the shutter dial

Wonderful shots guys. That last one is excellent Ziengler.
I don't really like to alter too much with photoshop. But I was trying some things to get a bit of a vintage feel, like a colored in photo of the WW1 period (An Autochrome-look would be a cool effect too)

Excellent idea!
andephotographic, I just underexposed by a stop or two, while shooting for ISO1600 and pushed in post.
