shibata…reborn!

i think this will work…
i took out the insert on my new blue fstop shibata bag…i traced the bottom of the insert (plus an inch or 2) on some closed cell foam (camping foam).
i cut it and then put it on the bottom of the bag…it goes up the sids a bit and adds some shape to the bag but it still is pretty flexible.
i then cut a rectangular piece of foam to act as a divider inside the bag…it is between my 2 bodies plus goes around one camera about half way (u shape).
without the oem insert the 2 bodies with lenses attached plus my third party hoods all fit inside with enough room to easily pull the camera out and put them back in!

now to try it out during a walkabout!!

I clicked, expecting a pic of some exotic type of mushroom.

I use various inserts by domke and tenba in non-camera bags. I usually add a fat piece of foam at the bottom, because the padding they come with is totally inadequate. I just hate hearing that 'thunk' when I put the bag down.

I picked up a a Bandon in their recent sale, and almost bought a Shibata, too. I kind of wish I had, now. About the only thing that kept me from buying it was that the bag seems too tall; that is, there seemed to be too much material around the mouth, and that it would be irritating getting things in and out of the bag.

Now, I'm pretty sure I wish I had gotten one, as it seems about right for a small messenger bag. Whereas the Bandon is neither-here-nor-there in size — not truly small, but not big enough to carry it all. I think the Shibata might have been a better compromise.
