Shoot me now, I can't be wanting to buy another M8.

I'm happy shooting film. Been shooting film again since selling my M8, late last year, before the bottom fell out of their pricing.

But now, I think I want to own one again. And there are a few within what I think is a reasonable price, with warranty.

Why, oh why.

Talk me out of it, please......

You know, sometimes the M8 is the camera for the occasion. After a year with it now, I find that I don't shoot it as much as I do my film cameras, but there are times with it's just the perfect thing.

I thought about selling mine, but the truth is that it's worth far more as a tool than it's current dollar value on the used market.

Clearly I'm not trying to talk you out of your desire. Shy of causing financial harm to yourself or those you care for, I just don't think you'd regret getting another one.

But that's just me...

There are times I've thought the same as you but having recently had to sort through a truck load of old M8 files to ready work for an exhibition I've vowed to not look at another digi M until it has better noise performance (think D700,) and at least 16mp. I'm not massively fussed about full frame but it would be a bonus. The IR issue really affected me because I was an early adopter so the issue wasn't announced when I got it and IR filters / fixes weren't ready. I hated every minute correcting that damn magenta cast! On the plus side, using filters to fix this issue wouldn't bother me now.

Anyway, I reckon stick with your film cameras for the time being. If YOU need a digi then get it. Life is too short!

Wait for the M9....remember you've already tried the M8 and managed to give it up. Wanting is sometimes better than having....

Best Rob

Ah, a day has passed, and I haven't bought. The feeling is leaving. Thank goodness, I can use the money on more film, and more Rolleiflexes. :)

Time heals wounds, Vikko! And GAS. :) At first I thought you had an M8 and were considering a second to make a pair. That's another illness that I often fall victim to.

No, you don't want a second-hand M8.

You want a new (black) M8.2.

It's even more seductive.

(Aaaargh!)

Then you want a 24/1.4 Summilux to go on it.

(Well, I do, anyway.)

(Double aaargh.)

Tashi delek,

Roger

Ordered one yesterday, Roger (24/1.4 I mean) It will take time to get one, they are not to be had for love or money- It seems there are quite a few takers for that lens.....

The opinion on the noise issue is shifting in the forums in favor of the M8 you may have noticed. And noise and film? Don't get me started - I was scanning some slides yesterday. Even at ISO 100 I was debating with myself to use Noise Ninja on the resulting files... And what on earth do you need a smallish increase in Mp for (Mp count is linear, resolution is logarithmic, remember)? The M8 files print flawlessly up to at least 40x60" already.

:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

I was hoping it would cause a sell-off of 28 'crons!
I suppose soon there will be a 28 'lux.

Anyway, it will be exciting to see photos from the 24!

flawless at 40x60"? Give me a break! I'm not knocking what 10mp can do but that is pure madness. "Acceptable at moderate distances" may be a better choice of words. I know from experience using my Epson 7600. For me 16mp would be a modest, if not big improvement, but even then I wouldn't think of printing over 18x27". And the noise issue is real. I know M8 files intimately as I have over 10000 to play with at all ISO's. Personally, I hate the noise the M8 has beyond 640ISO.
Different strokes...

Hmm.. You should read the remarks by David Adamson. You don't have to believe me, but the words of one of the world's foremost printers carry more weight with me than some anonymous scoffing. Actually he claims his prints at that size from M8 files are comparable to medium format. As soon as you start printing for Magnum photographers come back to me.

D200, better detail at 40 x 60in than 35mm film. for sure. from experience.

Hi Vic,
Go for it - you can always sell it later. :)
Cheers
Howard (just back from Manado, North Sulawesi - where the M8 had a good workout)

Thank goodness the fever is breaking. I'm shopping for film. I played with a G1 today - the urge to pull out my credit card wasn't there.

Yeah, maybe I still think about the M8.

Spring fever. But I'm coming back to my senses.
