Shooting Soccer: Film/Developer/Contrast Question

I've recently been shooting Legacy Pro 400 at EI:500 using TMax 1+4. I'm shooting soccer with a Zeiss 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6. I would like to keep the film speed, but produce less contrasty negatives. I know that I can lower the EI and compensate with development time. Is there a better film/developer combination where I can shoot at EI: 500 with a bit lower contrast and yet have relatively fine grain? I think that I was better off with Neopan 1600, but down to one roll.

Try Diafine. EI:500-640 should be no problem.

LP400 in Diafine will be an EI of 640; it will tame contrast but be aware that it may go too much the other way (i.e., lack of).

I'd use Xtol 1+1 myself, but that's only because I'm familiar with it.

Amen, Brother! Even with digital, 10 fps, follow focus, 200/2.8, obscenely high ASA, etc.
