... I only meant old posts where the OP is long gone, so responding to it serves no purpose as they're no longer around to read the reply

DON

When posting in threads, it is not just to the OP. In fact, most threads (especially if they are even somewhat controversial) become discussions between the participants, often leaving the subject of the original post behind.

When you start a thread here, you are starting a conversation, not answering questions (although usually questions do get answered.) So responding in threads the OP no longer reads, still serve the purpose of continuing the conversation.

Considering the focus of this forum is to discuss topics that are not changing, but are falling out of use, I think removing old posts would be a bad idea.

The title of this thread is "Should Old Posts Die?" What does that mean exactly? Define death of a post.

The first post in this thread clarifies.
"Is it necessary to revive dead posts?"

Most of the answers to this thread have been to a third question.

"Should old posts be completely deleted with no evidence that they ever existed at all?"

In response to the original question. Old threads are just as legitimate as any other thread, just because its old makes no difference if someone is interested in it and wants to talk about it, then at that point it becomes new again. And in that last sentence I believe there are many parallels to life if anyone wants to think about it.

No. There've been numerous archived threads here that I've come across via Google that proved invaluable. That there's an option to view the full thread, with pictures and all if needed, has come in handy as well.

This is my input as well. I've found posts that were old many times and used them for info and the photos in them as well.

Just because it's old does not mean it's not important. I mean, how many of us are shooting 50 year old cameras? 😀

I prefer it the way it is. I like threads to be revived when someone adds a new comment or question--or when I do. The new addition may stimulate additional discussion.
