Should the RFF meeting/club threads be set turned into private threads that only forum members can see?

Actually, that is a good idea I think. Honestly, I have to admit to taking a lot of my discussions about meetings I have attended off line as I do not want all the details to be available to the world. Some of these discussions will remain best to have off line, but any level of general security seems like a good idea to me.

I picked yes. I originally thought no, but the wording on the second option "enlightened" me. Of course, getting a membership is easy, no? It's just one extra step. However, this is a nice preventative measure.

I'm a welcoming and open person, but it takes very little effort to actually sign up to be a member here. Then, as a member you can lurk over the meeting threads as much as you like!

Welcome, lurkers! 😀

I was surprised when Kim pm'd me the details for the UK meet (that I can't attend after all 🙁 ), but it makes sense. You don't announce your children's birthday parties on the internet, so why announce your whereabouts and what expensive gear you might be carrying!

I voted yes. One reason is because in discussing my plans to visit Toronto and suggesting a rff gathering while there I was concerned about sharing my travel plans with the world. Perhaps it's just modern day paranoia, but as a result I, too, think that access to meeting discussions should be restricted to members.

I laughed when I noticed this thread was in the public forum, not members only 😀

I voted no... I just dont talk about stuff I dont want people to know.
Plus I used this site as a referance befor making my rangefinder purchases. Then only after browsing the site for a while and seeing how the members were did I decide to join.

I'm in the no camp, though I'd be O.K. with final details being posted to members only.
As Michael (woodphoto) points out, our community gets new members from those luking here; knowing that there are like minded people meeting in person in their geographic area could cause them to join and increase our pool of knowlege.
So what have we got to hide? Have there been cases of uninvited people showing up to cause trouble? We're not the World Trade Organization, afterall. Who would want to "crash" our get togethers?

Bryce, anyone with a brain (course criminal + brain = unlikely) could check the forum, get a location, then stalk one or more members. Even just use it as a chance for targets to pick off one by one in the future. I'm not being overly paranoid here, I have crossed paths with some very nasty people, but I'm lucky to be on their good side.

People work in very horrible ways.

I think that the general meet thing should be public, ie city name, rough date, and vague plan. all the final details should be private.

A definite YES. After my photo from the last New England RFF meet showed up on an infamous porn site.
