Wow it was $2600 in 2003. Yeah that was 15 years ago (almost) but nothing has changed apart from Leica increasing the price by 90%...
According to the inflation calculator, it should be about $3500 today, while the actual buying price is $4500.
And guess what? Just checked with B&H and it is sold out!

Could introduce a Film and digi ZM, sharing production costs for body, shutter, veiwfinder and some other bits. A slightly rweaked Film Zm would be nice. Self timer is something I miss.

This is also my experience. I have been using a ZM for years without any problem whatsoever.
My camera was one of the fragile ones unfortunately. I still have it actually, but it's unrepairable and has sat since 2015. I really should sell it to someone here that might value it for parts, so I'll get a for sale post put together.
My ZI is tied with my Contax G2 for the best cameras I've ever owned, but unfortunately electronic gremlins killed them both, despite careful handling. The G2 lasted ten years and the ZI five. I'm now using an old M3 because my ZI lenses will fit it, but the small viewfinder and lack of meter are a pain in the ass. The M3 will last forever just to spite me.
I would definitely be interested in a new ZI if it could somehow be less dependent on electronics, otherwise I'd have to consider it a shorter term investment based on personal experience.

My two cents: Love Zeiss to re-introduce a film camera so that they'd have more incentive (?) to extend their ZM lens line. Would love an upgrade to the 85mm ZM somewhere about F2 or F2.8. Thanks!

Did you just call the M3's VF small? That's not cool.

Maybe not small compared to viewfinders of the day, but compared to the ZI it's pretty small, especially if the photographer wears glasses.

They work with Sony a lot, who owns Minolta, which owns Konica. They should convince Sony to bring out a Hexar RF-D so they can sell more lenses.
