Show me a nice old car

As seen as police cars on The Italian Job, I think.

Love the Fulvia - pretty yet macho, ballet dancer in DMs - but I always had a soft spot for the Stratos. Like someone tried to recreate the cheese they'd eaten before bedtime the night they took really bad acid.

I am not sure if it was 1750 Berlinas or the previous generation sedans in the movie ... the release date of "The Italian Job" was 1969, which puts it right on the cusp for the 1750 models.

Oh the Stratos ...!! Freekin' crazy car, fantastic rally beast! I'd love a Stratos Stradale, but the last two I saw being sold in the USA went for $600,000 and $940,000 respectively. That's a tad out of my pay bracket! They're also just about the most useless things as a street car: Hideously uncomfortable because they're so small inside, ferociously noisy (no sound deadening at all!), and twitchy as a car can be. The Stratos was really built for one thing only: to win in World Championship Rally racing. And it does that brilliantly!

I do have a Stratos Stradale...

... but I'll need to Get Small to drive it. It's just an outrageous machine! :D

Not as sexy as a Lancia Fulvia, more of an executive's daily runner.

Ha! Nice Bimmer... and behind it is a recent Mercedes roadster, and bracketed in front is a 1950's Corvette. Whee! :)

SAAB Convertible - I'm not sure of the year, maybe 2003?

The Lancia Stratos had the engine of the Ferrari Dino mounted trasversally
Enzo Ferrari was reluctant to give the engines, but after the Lancia Pilot Sandro Munari won a Targa Florio with a Ferrari, he accepted the deal with Lancia.
For many years Munari and the Stratos had no rivals in the world Rally Chanpionship

Excellent Dauphine!

Yokosuka Mike, Can you find a Toyota Century V12 cruising around somewhere?

These are (normally) the dated black limos with curtains in the back that only seem to exist in Japan. Be careful though, they might contain the bosses of the local yakusa...

I saw a new Toyota Century yesterday parked in front of the Yokohama New Grand Hotel. Old or new they are a rare sight around here. The owners always ride in the back seat and a chauffeur does the driving. I don’t know it for a fact but I think they are all order made. I’ve never seen a car dealership with one on the display floor.

I’ll be on the watch for an older V12 from now on.

All the best,
Mike
