Show me a nice old car

Nice collection. I thought 405 was a Facelia for a minute but I think not. Nice car anyway. Yeah, the Pixii does work.

I attended the All Italian Day Car & Motorcycle Show, put on by the Northern California Alfa Romeo Association, in Alameda, CA yesterday. It was a lovely day and a lot of wonderful cars showed up. A lot of Alfa Romeos, of course, but quite a few Ferraris, Lamborghinis, FIATs, a few Lancias (like my Fulvia Coupé, a Fulvia Sport GT, an Aurelia B24S, a Flaminia 2.8), and a few rarities like a beautiful OSCA 1600 GT2. Several De Tomaso Panteras...

And then there was to my eye the show stunner ... A superbly kept De Tomaso Mangusta:

DeTomaso Mangusta - All Italian Day, Alameda 2022

I wish I'd had time and the Hasselblad with me to photograph this car but I know it's likely futile. No photograph I've ever seen of it does it justice ... The lines and details of the Mangusta just have to be appreciated in person! It's a stunningly beautiful design and looks so amazing rolling down the road! Takes my breath away. I joked with the owner that he should win a new award ... "Sexiest Car in the Show".

Several people tried to offer me money for my Fulvia, but it's "not for sale"... Although nowhere near as stunning as the Mangusta, and without the near-infinite lust appeal of the bright yellow Miura S that was parked in front of me, the Fulvia Coupé is just right and a delightful car to drive any time I want to. I think I'll keep it... :D

I find a lot of cars look their best from the side straight on or at an angle taking in the rear quarter or so.

You are right to keep your lovely Fulvia.

Thank you for the compliment on the Fulvia!

Yes, the rear 3/4 view is usually a good angle, with a lot of cars, as is side on. But there is a subtle "3D Solid" appeal to many of the nicer automotive shapes that is just very very difficult to express in a photograph. The Mangusta is one of those, never mind that it's so low that you almost have to be shooting from down around the middle part of your shin to do it justice. ;)

A beautiful piece of automotive art!

I'd stick with your Fulvia, a drive in a DeTomaso is a terrifying experience. To arrive at your destination without losing any part of the car (or your anatomy) is an achievement...but they do look good!

Indeed https://www.drive.com.au/news/1936-bugatti-type-57sc-atlantic-sells-for-34-million/ another piece of rolling art! I also like any of the De La Haye models.

Ah, the Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe! There was one of those for sale where I lived, for a not outrageous price, way back in the day when I might have gotten it. But I knew it was never going to be a car I could use daily, and I couldn't afford a car I couldn't use at that time ... Lovely and outrageous machine!

So I showed the De Tomaso Mangusta from All Italian Day yesterday ... Now I've completed processing the 40 odd exposures and vids I made, edited them together into both a video presentation and a stills gallery:

Thanks Godfrey, I enjoyed the video.

Ma charette

I had one of those but the camionnette version. My wife called it "Poppy" because of the colour and I called it the "Flying Dustbin" because of the panels making up the van body. Regardless, it was great fun to own and drive, dirt cheap to run and it had the oldest and smallest engine in it.

At the time my dad worked for a well known racing team and had a 2.4 Jaguar which I borrowed from time to time. On my daily commute the 2CV was fastest mainly because you had to think about driving it but the Jag would let you be lazy. Rather like cameras...
