Show Off Your FSU

Hi,

Welcome aboard, you've made a good start with those two but beware, you are now standing at the top of a long slippery slope. I expect you'll enjoy it.

Regards, David

No fear, I can resist.

See, I'm a guitar builder, and I only own one guitar.
Well, 2 if you count the one I only keep at home, plus the little one, but they are all my work.
Oh, I have a Martin, but I had it before I built guitars. My son has 6 or 7 guitars, he lives here & we keep them all in the same room, so I suppose together we have 12.

I have some bicycles too, not many though.
Oh, and I forgot the new guitars that I haven't sold yet.

But I will only keep two cameras.
I need to sell the Zenit & the Lubatel.

davidnewtonguitars -- collecting FSU cameras is a MUCH cheaper hobby than collecting guitars. You've made a wise move! :)

FWIW I am an amateur (hack) guitar player, I have a couple of acoustics and a gorgeous electric (a Collings CL) that is my pride-and-joy. The Collings CL is a much better guitar than my abilities as a guitar player.

I find the Zorki case good for storage, but too bulky for street use.
I didn't want to cut apart the original cases, so I made these open cases from a thick leather I had in my shop.
They work well for the intended use.

Hi,

I have a similar problem, I can resist ex-USSR cameras and bicycles but when I point to the hundreds I've not bought my wife points to the dozens I have. So I point out I've only 18 Moultons and she ... (to be continued).

Regarding the special edition Fed-2 "Sputnik" ... I bought it off eBay from a Russian seller, I am pretty much of the opinion that the camera is not original. I assume that the Fed-2 was doctored and re-painted in order to give it that 'special' designation.

At any rate it makes a nice collector's piece.

Thanks, I'd wondered about it and am wondering if they'll ever do a "black" version of (say) the FED 1 etc. OTOH, I can't justify buying one just for its looks...

They didn't do black versions, only in recent years to be able to sell the ones with bad chromium - comparable to the remakes of black Leica's. If you have bad luck, you bought one that wasn't dechromed before it was painted black. On the other hand, they made a lot of commemorative cameras, but no black rangefinders.

That is a gorgeous Zorki-zorki!
I have not seen that vulcanite pattern (on a Z-Z)
How do like the Jupiter 12 pictures?

Thanks! It has actually been recovered with some sort of vinyl leatherette. I just got my J-12 and have yet to develop a roll using it but I am really looking forward to seeing how it works out. I have only ever used 50mm lenses before getting this one, and it seems like a great lens for hyperfocal distance street shooting.

How do you like the viewfinder on the Zorki 4 after using the Zorki 1? I found mine a bit hard to frame accurately with since I couldn't really see all the frame edges at the same time, compared to the squinty finder of the Z1 though it sure is a different experience...

I thought it looked different from vulcanite, but I haven't seen everything.

The 4's finder is super-bright and easy to use.
It is so much bigger and heavier than the 1 though, I find slipping the 1 in my jeans pocket is easier than carrying the 4.
The 4 is very new to me, but if the lens is better than the 1 I'm sure that will change.
I wish there was a 1 size & shape with a single window finder. STOP! Enough!
