Show Off Your FSU

Do you know how to use it? I have two Kiev 15s and I still have to understand exactly how to use them.

Yes, it seems quite intuitive, both in manual and automatic mode. The selenium meter seemed still reliable the last time I used it, several months ago. My camera has no flash socket, so I don't use it - and don't know anything about it.
Two problems however:
1) I need to put some kind of spacer under the film cannister to keep it in the right position - I don´t understand why they have left such a large space there (other FSU cameras from the same time have a normal sized compartment for the film). Perhaps something is missing in my camera ??
2) Weight. But I knew it when I bought it.

Regards

Joao

Can't remember if I posted a picture of this beauty previously or not -- this thread is getting kind of long!

Anyway, here's one of the more interesting pieces in my collection: a 'Sputnik' edition Fed 2. I know it's not authentic, and but it's a well-crafted 'fake' collectible. Plus, it still works as a daily shooter. :)

Intuitive? In my Kiev 15s I still have to understand what the red bars inside the viewfinder do...not to mention the needle.

However here there's my small collection of soviet RFs, including the Zarya:

Actually I do have another Z6 and another Z4k but I felt redundant to put them in the pic.

I also just received my first J3!

It looks very clean and now my Soviet RF system is complete...notwithstanding the Russar.

Wulfthari (or anyone) - do you have any ideas about where to pick up a good J-3 these days? I would like to find one to put to the test against an Opton Sonnar.

Thanks!

Good question...today it's very hard to get one in decent conditions and at decent price, in my case it belonged to an italian collector who used on his digital camera, I assume you can play the russian or ukranian roulette on evilbay.

I always wonder why that idea of split screen rangefinder wasn't adopted by other makers, I find it the easiest RF to focus, even better than Leica's system.

Personally I find it kind of strange -- the center 'split screen' patch is difficult to align, and even with my 20/20 vision I am never 100% sure what exactly I'm focusing on.

Anyway, my Leningrad has a very temperamental spring mechanism and shooting with it is an exercise in frustration. I think I'll just keep it around as a collectible / paper weight.
