How about we show some love for the cheap old reliable Nikkormats!

Having been a long time Nikon user, Ive actually never really used a Nikkormat, I just had to get one!

So last year I took a gamble on a FT2, but it was a deado and I promptly sent it back and the idea thrown out of my head.

Recently I got the itch again, It started out looking at another F for a beater 35/2.0 ive grown attached to, but have been reluctant to have it AI converted to work on the D3. I just did not want to spend 100$ on a body for a cheap/beater lens.

Thats where a Nikkormat FT found me at a whopping 16$ shipped from my favorite online camera shop (Used Photo Pro's AKA Roberts)

A well used early serial # camera that will perfectly match my ugly 35.

Im stoked!

Lets show some love (photos or it did not happen) 😉

Oh! and my proof : http://www.ebay.com/itm/201664514294?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I never had one either but I remember the lust for one in 1963. It was a new model, and not unrealistic price. I think it was $200 with a f-2.0 lens. It would have been bliss, but tuition called first. I'd like to see some, too.

John, that same kit in 2016 is about 45-60$ in good shape. Maybe its time!?

My hundred dollar FT2 which quickly became a three hundred dollar FT2 by adding a lens or two and a new eypiece.

Funny, these beauties are still working. At the time (1963)Photo magazines and other know it alls said that the Copal shutter is a BIG question mark; so be careful. It has been 53 years since I was interested in this camera so maybe I'm wrong about the shutter being a Copal.

John, it is indeed a square Copal shutter. I would have to say the design has really proven itself over these 53 years!

I have never had a Copal shutter fail. From the Ricoh Singlex TLS through the Yashica FX3 Super, and many in between. You could probably chop celery with them and not break them.

Actually, the Nikkormats (FT, FS, FTn) used a "Copal Square II" shutter which was a refined and much more reliable updated shutter. The original "Copal Square" was less reliable and appeared on only a very few cameras. The Nikkorex F and its Ricoh near-twin (Singlex F, I believe) used the original version, which is identifiable by being clearly marked "Copal Square" on the shutter blades.

Lets see if this photos works!?
