My first post and my family of found rangers
(I think I must have messed-up my earlier post)
Hi- I'm new here and I am a Soviet camera newbie.
I just wanted to drop in and show a few of my Russian rangefinders along with some of their Japanese distant cousins. All shot with my Canon G2.
BTW- learning a lot here!

Thanks!
The G2 is neat. It is capable of very decent images. I have been working with it's various quirks. One of which is its slowness when focusing. To remedy this I shoot it manually using "hyperfocal" rules.
A good tip- get the "Lensmate" filter adapter. It has already saved this camera from an expensive repair after a fall at Legoland, CA.
If only the G2 would hold on to the manual focus the user sets until it is told to change.
The funny part is the G2 is why I started down the road of "rangefinderdom." I got tired of fussing with the controls. I remembered how cool and simple my old Minolta SRT101 in high school was. Which led to repeated ebay visits and endless web research. Which led to rangefinders and inevitably to looking up Leicas on ebay. Then lo and behold LEICA COPIES!
Ah, the simplicity. And, I can work on the darn things myself without having to pay the Leica tariff for parts and repair.
Of course... I would love to own a Lieca... but being unemployed doesn't help that desire one bit. Besides, I can take out two of these. Each loaded with different film and different lenses. All without having to worry about being held up or rip-offs.

Welcome and be very very carefull - there is a very dangerous virus around here called FSU-GAS. It has two manifestations - one for LTM and one for CRFM (LOL). I'm one of the local Kievaholics so if you get that version too, don't worry you'll still be in good company around here
I don't need no Lieca, but I do want my Contax III back from Henry's Day Spa... I just have to figure out how to pay for it once it's done!

bob, does that lensmate look like an extension tube with threads on each end?
i assumed at first it was like a lens hood, then figured it was for filters but i'm new to digital and wondered what filter i could possibly use.
i actually forgot about it till this post.
what do you use it for?

Lensmate and G2
Lensmate and G2
the lensmate for the G2 looks like this-
http://www.lensmateonline.com/G2start.html
I use mine for a UV filter and for a Polarizing filter (you can use circular or linear). It also acts as a lens hood most of the time.
When my G2 dropped at Legoland it bounced from one corner of the camera onto the Lensmate. Camera body is dinged, the lens was extended within the lensmate. The Lensmate was not even scratched. The Polarizing filter also managed to remain unscathed.
I think the Lensmate is powder coated. Hmmmmm... a titanium colored powder coated Fed 3 (enter Waynes World dream sequence audio here).
I had to bring this topic back to the soviet camera thing

fedzilla,
thanks for the info. i didn't realize that gene was throwing in yet another extra when he sold me the g2.
i tried the lenmate and like the look and it make sense to use. my problem is that the bag i bought is way too small & does not allow the camera & lensmate to fit.
back to the drawing board...

Thank you Joe.
The FED will definitely do a better job! By the way I will take it with me on my Thailand trip tomorrow (err ... maybe today since it is 3:15am here in HKG now). And see how I go with my first RF camera ... hee hee

Here's me and my 1964 Kiev 4a, 50mm Jupiter 8 f/2.
I almost exclusively shoot digital these days, but when I shoot film, I love the Kiev 4a.

Hi,
Has anyone had experience with Ebay seller "Sovietclassic17" ?
I've paid him for a Zorki 6, but haven't recieved any reply from him (not even automated email). I'm hoping for the best.

HA - As soon as I wrote that I checked today's email and have received confirmation from Sovietclassic17 that the "6" is on it's way to me! The wait begins ~ ; - )
