My new Heliar 75/2.5 and the first roll of Fuji Xtra 400.
Bessa R camera.
This lens is sharp like the Color skopar 35/2.5. I like it

My wife just gave me a 35PII and 75 to go with my R2 that will travel with me in my car and vacations. No prints at this time but from examining negs at 8x it appears to be very comperable other than speed to my 75 summilux that I currently have and the v4 35 summicron that I previously owned. Both lenses are very sharp and smooth in tonality. My first impression is I like the more classic smootheness than the harsh tonality of my Leica asph lenses.

I really like the length and it's performance. Those with 75mm lenses costing hugely more $$ will tell you it's soft wide open, and it might be. I cannot tell as I rarely shoot it wide open but find it sharp enough by far. One example attached. A couple more from me and other's here:

I just ran a test roll of Neopan 400 and examined the negs with an acromatic 8x loupe. Most of the shots are at f2.5 shot on my R2. One thing I notice is the RF base is just a little short for consistent focus at minimum distance at 2.5. When it's on the focus point it's deadly sharp. Skin testure down to the fine details of the skin and eye lashes that are crisp and perfectly defined. Stop down a stop and it's deadly sharp. No lens performs it's best wide open but the CV 75 holds it's own even against my 75 summilux. I shot some at medium distances of 15ft and can say it's excellent wide open. I recently purchased a 90 Tele-Elmarit (thin) and will say the 75 CV walks all over the Tele-Elmarit in wide open resolution, contrast and flare resistance. Looking at tonal gradation in the negs and the transitions between tones and details it is very classic in rendering.

I think many that say it's soft wide open have read Erwin P. biased assesmant of cv lenses. From my experience with CV glass now vs 40 years of shooting leica glass I think the CV glass holds it's own very well in comparison to the Leica glass. I wouldn't trade my 35 1.2 even for a 35 asph summilux or my Nokton 50 for a pre asph summilux 50. I also wouldn't trade my 28 Ultron for any of the Leica 28's to date including the summicron. I like the ergonomics of the Ultron and find the images so close in quality I can't tell the difference.

One from my gallery. This was shot wide open on my M8 - really a sweet lens. I focused on the bottle of olive oil just to the right of centre, which explains the somewhat soft background.

What is that ?

A Weaver nest made in parts with Wilderbeast hair. Something only
documented once years before we saw this in the Serengeti
(and shot with the Heliar, it shows the Heliar's quality quite nicely ...)

Cheers,

Roland.

I love this lens too...

I love this lens too...

But it quite consistently backfocuses on my M8🙁 . Oh well it is consistent so I just adjust the focus point a little bit forwar and VOILA!🙂 (May still get it looked at when I am in Paris around Xsmas). Still I really like the focal length and the results.

This one taken with a CV75 SL Series (same glass in a Nikon F mount). Actual exposure details not recorded, but it would have been either f2.5 or f4 for the deep shadows under the bridge. Focus point was the closest pylon on the right.
